Dorothy is writing about a very difficult time in her life where God really shone through in difficult circumstances and her sister, Vicky, was recently in a bad accident. Dorothy's doodle has her heart and the "fire" of the Holy Spirit coming down from Heaven upon it and leading her in the sharing of that story as it pours out from her heart for others.

This past summer, I attended a women's conference at my church that focused on finding our identity in Christ. As I listened to the speakers, I found myself doodling and praying... this is what came out of that.

In June, we had the surprise blessing of a visit from Kaylee! Many many MANY prayers of thanks for that visit and the very great time that we had! The first doodle is a doodle of praise and thank you. The second is one I did as I prayed over how far God had brought each of us along the path the last few years. February of 2006 was a dark and sad time, but as time passed by and we had phone calls, letters, pictures and emails our spirits were lifted. Then our surprise visit in June when we played light sabers together, did cartwheels and took many pictures and had an absolutely ball with our sassy little blonde "angel." Then looking forward along the path towards a future that is uncertain but still filled with hope.

Grandpa Dennis... we miss you

In May, my father-in-law, Dennis, passed away unexpectedly a few weeks before his 69th birthday. It was quite a blow to our family and especially to Lee and his sister, Traci. These are a couple of the doodles that came out of praying over all of us especially over those first few weeks.

Day after day after day, I am driven to my knees before God, begging for His wisdom and grace and discernment in how best to raise our boys. I am so thankful for them and their particular challenges that cause me to reach out to my Creator in desperation because more often than not, it is I who walks away the most changed - for the better. :)

My good friend, Steve, sent me this particular prayer by William Barclay. I absolutely love it. I printed it out and pasted into my Prayer Doodle journal and have been doodling around it every time I pray this prayer. The full text of this prayer (in case you can't read it on the photo) is:

Disneyland Vacation Prayers

This past March, Lee and I took the boys to Disneyland after my brother-in-law's jetski race up north of where we live in Arizona. I was actually in Colorado for my Grandmother's funeral while everyone else was at the race and wound up meeting my crew in California. I started the first doodle while I was on the plane from Colorado to California as I struggled with processing grief and wanting to enjoy our long awaited family vacation (and, I admit, a little apprehensive about being cooped up in a small hotel room with two boisterous boys on a major vacation high). Turns out, it was all cool and we all had a ball. Lee and I and the boys along with Traci, Sean, Hollie and Sean's brother, Kasey LOVED Disneyland, even in the rain! It was a first visit ever to the Magic Kingdom for Hollie and Kasey and I'm pretty sure they had a blast!

In this one, I am doing doodles over all of our family's favorite scriptures. It's a perfect size - 6"x6"- and I think it might be a great idea for gift giving... :)

Fighting the Good Fight

This doodle was done especially for Shaun's friend, Katie, who has valiantly battled cancer this past year. This particular scripture is one that she prayed over many times before chemo and we wanted to give her something to remind her of the strength that God gave her to get through such an incredibly trying time. :) I decided to venture out into the area of gold leafing, something my friend Staci and I have always wanted to start doing and I really love the way it catches the light and just illuminates the whole doodle.

How To Prayer Doodle

The process of a prayer doodle... beginning with just some names of folks I am praying for (in this example, I would be praying for Abraham and Sarah and their struggle with infertility - see Genesis 19 and 21 - and Mary and Martha in the loss of their brother, Lazarus - see John 11)

After writing the names of the people, I doodle around them the things I am praying over them. Here, I'm praying for communication and grace between them as well as their hearts to be unified in the areas of infertility, marriage and grief. I'm praying for both of their health and love and am asking God to wrap them completely in a special gift of faith in Him. I've "wrapped" Mary and Martha in God's peace, comfort and love in their grief over the loss of their brother. I've included scriptures that I'm praying over them especially at this time.

As I color each element, I am praying over them again.

Shaun did this doodle with me. Shaun said that we should draw the names of people we love on God so I drew him a "gingerbread" man for "God" and he started to write names on it (then he asked me to help with more names). Later, he said "Mom, it needs to have those... those... lines [rays] to show that it's God."

Recently, the Life Without Limbs team was in Africa on their world tour. They visited many countries and many of us felt a much heavier than normal burden to be lifting them all in prayer. You can get more information and updated on their happenenings and whereabouts on the LWL website: www.lifewithoutlimbs.org website.

The continent of Africa reminds me very much of a footprint and I really felt the Matthew 28:19 verse as I prayed today, so I made it a footprint for Jesus. :) I put the name of a team member in each toe with specific things next to their names I was lifting up in prayer - their hearts, well being, health, wisdom, etc. The light of the Word is a lamp for every generation for now and to come in Africa, and my prayer is that light will become a fire for Him in the nations. I felt drawn to highlight Egypt (the land of the pharoahs)where there is such spiritual darkness. It is the pyramids in a sea of red blood with the words "let that which was once covered in blood be cleansed by Yours (blood)"

I did this doodle when I had a heavy heart (in a good way!) for the several friends and family members who are expecting and wanted to dedicate a solid space of time to praying for each of them and their little ones in their wombs as well as their spouses and other children. You'll see the golden bubbles again for moments of God's presence with them, the meanders for memories and new patterns that signify prayers for God's grace, protection, balance, health... After meeting with Shaun's teacher and the other team members at his school about some challenges he's been having, I came home and prayed for him and did this doodle. I put his lifeverse on his head and put a sash of salvation and eternal life on him as I prayed for his salvation. I added the other areas as I prayed and colored them with colors that "felt" right. This image has stayed with me for two days and as I've gone about my day, certain patterns or colors or designs have popped into my head and I've prayed for that particular thing again right in that moment.
